Win a Signed Copy of Al Gore’s The Future – Beauty & Brains Contest

//Win a Signed Copy of Al Gore’s The Future – Beauty & Brains Contest

al goreOn this blog, I have wanted to create a hub for beauty that did not only discuss the superficiality of beauty but highlight how beauty can make the world a better place.  Naturally, I respect advocates for positive change like former Vice President Al Gore because his messages of sustainability, collectivity and hope resonate with my view of beauty (the latter is often difficult).  I should’ve added him to my Most Beautiful People Inside and Out List.

I love how he dealt with, what I imagine, was his disappointment of not becoming the 46th President of the United States of America and channel this into projects that have been so positive and influential.  So, to spread the love, I’m giving away my own copy of his latest book “The Future” signed personally by Mr. Gore.  Perhaps unorthodox of a beauty blog but I want to look into the future and see many things beyond wrinkles and crow’s feet.

Tuesday I went to see him speak at The Ryerson Theatre and during Q and A one local Torontonian Physician said humbly “Mr. Gore, I admire your fight towards sustainability and change.  Today, I imagine you surrounded by a theatre full of informed, educated people who are eager to make a difference.  Can you tell us what we can do to facilitate change and make a difference on an individual level?”  What a wonderful question and I think one that many of us have asked ourselves before.  Al Gore responded that he thinks we need to be more engaged on the Internet and make it a platform for fair, equality-enhancing communication in contrast to ‘the corrupt system of television” compromised by the sponsorship of large corporations.  But I think there is much more we can do.  Some things are so simple but so effective.

So, leave comments below with a suggestion of how we can help the environment and aid our planet’s future in a real, tangible way.  I will announce one winner to receive the book on May 17th – so that’ll be the deadline.  Though, I imagine there will be so many fantastic tips that we’re all going to be winners.  We’ll be able to see new ways to incorporate the positive into our daily lives as well as be inspired by the beautiful recommendations of our peers, instill hope, love and ultimately change.

Everyone as an individual can do a lot for the environment. Start small and at home. There is a saying” Charity begins at home”.
Unplug your electric equipments when not in use.
save water by doing a 7 minute shower instead of the soaking yourselves in the bath tub,
    Recycle responsibly.
Carpool or use the vehicle less often.
Ditch the plastic and use glass or steel containers.
Eat more fruits and vegetables and less meat. Meat eating diet depletes the environment and uses vast amount of water for livestock consumption. One pound of meat requires at least 2500 gallons of water.
    Plant more trees.

Don’t leave the water on when brushing your teeth.
Don’t throw away old/unused medications – drop them off at the pharmacy.
Eliminate or decrease individual use of toxic items like scented candles, air fresheners, conventional feminine hygiene products.
      Use biodegradable detergents.
Grow some of your own food and support your local farmers and markets.

I made a decision to shop less and shop smarter which for me means looking at the label before buying to avoid cheaply made clothes that consume more resources and buying less or buying vintage or gently used clothes that don’t increase my carbon foot print.
