I have not been sleeping well lately – and you know what that means….beauty drama! A lack of sleeps leads to dehydrated skin, puffiness and under eye circles. Luckily, I know how to prevent bad under eye darkness. But solutions start with understanding causes – so for any of you how want to learn how to prevent and treat under eye circles, here are the reasons for raccon eyes.
Genetics: Many people blame under eye circles on genetics. But while they may be handed down by genetics, often this has more do to with the genetics of our kidneys rather than our actual eye areas. Also, those of us with genetically drier skin will often have brownish dark circles because a buildup of dead skin cells accentuates darkness. A good moisturizer helps this along with examining kidney care.
Kidney Dysfunction: According to Ayurvedic Face Mapping, the lower lip of the lower eye lid is related to the adrenal area while the lower lid where the eye socket begins is governed by the kidneys (Feel the eye bone underneath your eye. This is the kidney area). As we get older, our eye areas can get saggier, baggier and dark circles more pronounced. This is because the kidneys are Vata organs and the Vata Dosha becomes stronger as we mature. Those with predominant Vata doshas often have eye circles even from a young age. To treat this, we must support our kidneys with holistic solutions (check out my post on kidney care here).
Poor Blood Circulation: Blood without oxygen is dark in color and causes a bluishness under the eyes. When our blood is stagnant in the eye area, this builds up leading to under eye circles. Breaking up this stagnation and encouraging blood flow is important. Eye products which have circulation-increasing ingredients such as arnica, eye bright and vitamin C can be very effective.
Lack of Lymph and Movement: A lack of lymph movement contributes to dark circles along with puffy eyes and edema. This is relates to poor circulation as mentioned above. While lymphatic accumulation is an issue on its own, this buildup puts pressure on the under eye area and also causes congestion. This can be done with daily massaging of this area as well as using a stimulating eye cream. It is also important to move the lymph in this area to treat under eye bags.
