For the love of a good read: Love Struck Giveaway Contest

If you are like me, one of the best ways to escape the stressors of daily life is by diving into a good book.
And no one knows this better than Chantel Simmons, best-selling authour of “Love Struck”, who announced to me that this book was about her two favourite things: love and beauty.
So we are giving away three copies of “Love Struck” in the spirit of relaxation and nourishment for the soul (I imagine this is the perfect book to savour during a long bath).
All you have to do is post a comment on this blog post that says what your favourite beauty must-have is. I’m talkin’ ’bout the good stuff: the products you would want with you if you were stranded on a desert island. Mine would either by my Lakshmi Cream Eyeliner (a love I share with Rachel Mc Adams says our front desk staff) or my P+S Organic Rosehip Face Oil (I’d also need it to combat sun damage!). Don’t forget to fill out the email field when leaving your comment so we can contact you if you win!
Jacket description of “Love Struck”:
A funny, heartfelt story about losing the perfect life–and finding a real one.
When twenty-seven-year-old image consultant Poppy Ross discovers that her handsome and seemingly devoted husband Parker is having an affair, she is dumbfounded. Before she has chance to confront him, however, he is struck by lightning. When he regains consciousness, he has lost his short-term memory—including that of the affair. Given a chance to erase history and possibly save her marriage, Poppy decides to remake herself in the mistress’s image, so that Parker might never be tempted to stray again. Her quest to become his perfect woman has disastrous and hilarious results—and just might turn out to be the worst thing possible for their relationship.

After giving it some thought I have quite a few beauty must haves. I’m not sure what this says about myself but nonetheless here is my list (in no specific order):
Kiss Me Ultra Volume Mascara (this mascara will really stay on for the full day, and is the only mascara [and I've tried everything from drug store to department store] that has allowed me to skip the step of curling my eyelashes in order to create the illusion of length, without having stick-straight lashes.)
Pure and Simple Collagen Elastin Plus (moisture, moisture, moisture!)
Sprout Botanicals Soothing Balm (it seems to comfort every skin itch, dryness, or scrape)
Cake Satin Sugar Hair and Body Refreshing Powder (this isn’t glamorous but sometimes a person needs a little hair help on those ‘I didn’t feel like washing my hair’ days)
Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant in the vanilla grapefruit scent (Again, not a glamorous product, and very much a necessity for myself, but the scent and way it made my underarms feel really won me over)
I have a toss up between Love Fresh Sugar Scrub in vanilla and Cake Beauty Sugar Scrub in citrus squeeze
And finally my electric toothbrush (although I don’t know where I would plug that in on a deserted island…)
On another note, this is a really great blog Kristen! I’ve found your writing not only relatable but it also gives me hope with my own skin hurdles. Keep up the great work!
I was going to say Kiss Me Ultra Volune Mascara too but Alicia beat me to the punch — it’s amazing! What I like most about it is the no smudging – perfect for the types of weather conditions I imagine I’d face if ever stuck on a desert island.
My other must-haves would have to be:
Pure + Simple Rainforest Foundation powder – sunscreen and anti-inflammatory goodness all in one! I used this in the middle of August when I was in the Mojave Desert and didn’t burn once!
Pure + Simple’s Collagen Elastin Plus – a major skin drink for dehydrated and sun damaged skin!
Just Pure’s Aloe Frangipani Cream – nourishing and healing, so super pure – I could eat it if times got real tough.
Is it bad that two of my must haves include make-up…Hmmm…
Sabon’s Body Scrub is one of the best exfoliants for the body and leaves skin crazy soft and hydrated.
I wouldn’t wear anything without first using Smashbox’s Photo Finish primer. It can save time (no need for foundation if you’re in a rush) or just create a great smooth canvas.
And I second the Cake Satin Sugar Hair and Body Refreshing Powder . At home and in my gym bag, it can be a lifesaver.
I’m like Kristein in that I wouldn’t be able to go anywhere without my Mac black eyeliner and Pure & Simple’s face oil!!
I haven’t worn makeup much since I had my baby, but I may try that mascara out! I can’t live without any these in my beauty routine: Pure + Simple Organic Lavender Hydrosol (what a perk me up!), Collagen & Elastin HCH, Refining Peach Enzyme Treatment (yummy) , Calendula Face Mask and Martina Gebhardt Shea butter lotion! They help my skin glow! This is my first visit to your blog…I am going to dive in!
I would say my must have beauty product is pure and simple flawless foundation with my bobbi brown concealer.
as for a must have skin care it would be pure and simple spf and rose hip seed oil.
Great contest. Love to read!
Definately I would have to say Collegen Elastin Plus and Jane Iredale: Amazing Base Loose Mineral Powder – SPF 20
Lastly if I was stuck on a dessert island, one of my many shades of red lipsticks, it can be doubled as a blush!
Love the blog and everything Pure + Simple!
Thanks!
My favourite beauty must have would be my moisturiser, Boots #7 restore and renew. Weleda skin food is a must have too. I love being dewy
My beauty must is an amazing moisturizer for the face. I highly recommend PURE + SIMPLE Sensitive Skin moisturizer. I adore this product and have noticed a difference in my skin since switching to this after my PURE+SIMPLE salt microdermabrasion facial (which i also HIGHLY recommend).
My favorite must have beauty product is shea butter and coconut oil. It is my favorite moisturizer for my body and if I can get a cocoa shea butter…even better. Second, would have to be the face moisturize I am currently using, Just Pure, Honey Facial Cream.
As someone with straight Asian lashes, I love the Kiss Me mascara but didn’t know it came in Ultra Volume. I will have to check that out!
I also love Pure + Simple’s Sensitive Skin Cleansing Milk. I never felt cleansing milks did much cleansing until you helped me discover this one.
It took me a lot of samples to get over the smell of Martina Gebhardt’s black mud facial cream, but now I’m addicted to it, and the lotion. It’s the only cream I’ve found to sufficiently hydrate my very dehydrated acne prone sensitive skin. If I use this at night and top it off with Pure + Simple’s Rejuvenating Face Oil, my skin feels like it just had a hydrating facial.
On a side note, Kristin, I really enjoy reading your blog. I too find your postings completely relatable and informative. Keep up the great work!
Wow….being a bit of a beauty junkie I have a lot of must haves – the most practical was the effectiveness of the Pure and Simple’s Sunscreen on a recent trip to Barbados – total protection!
Love Kiss Me Mascara – another great travel product as you only need water to remove it!
Collagen and Elastin HCH a new fave as is the Just Pure Calendula and Royal Jelly – very nourishing for Canadian winters.
Pen concealer like Touche Eclat for Jane Iredale’s and certainly my permanent addiction – lipgloss – from Guerlain to Yves St. Laurent and most healthful – Jane Iredale’s – which also taste great.
How convenient for me that Pure and Simple is just downstairs at King and Tecumseh…or maybe a little too convenient..:)
I love all of the products that I’ve tried from the Pure + Simple line but for me it’s the sunscreen that reigns supreme. As I’ve had major irritation issues with other sunscreens in the past I was avoided using sunscreen on my face until I came across your product. The Pure+Simple sunscreen doesn’t irrirate my overly sensitive / rosacea prone skin and even helps calm it down.
Thank you for offering a great product!
Couldn’t survive without my Martina Gebhardt Sheabutter facial cream.
There are only two things that are beauty must have:
1. Pure & Simple – Green Tea Refining Face Wash (it’s like magic!)
2. Camellia Oil,Perilla Oil & Vitamin E moisturizer
3. WATER, WATER, WATER!
Love the blog & Pure & Simple!
What a great list of beauty products – I’m making a list from everyone’s reccommendations! My personal fave is P+S Collagen Elastin HCH. It’s so hydrating! Thanks for the contest. Good luck everyone!
My Carrot Butter cleanser The Organic Pharmacy
& Petite Marie Organics Kiss of Love & Very Gentle Cleanser
and last but not least my Burt’s Bees Collection
Beauty must haves?! Where do I begin?
Okay, let me see…if I were stranded on a dessert island I would absolutely need Pure + Simple Collagen Elastin HCH, my Martina Gebhardt Black Mud lotion and Vitamin K eye cream. Oh and an exfoliater of course!
Alas, this was an extremely difficult question
For the record, I hope I am never stranded on an island and forced to choose only 1 beauty product. The mere thought seems impossible!
Oh gods where do I start..
1) Martina Gebhardt Sheabutter facial cream or Pure + Simple Pitta Sensitive Facial Oil
2) Pure + Simple Rainforest Foundation powder
3) Jane Iredale’s mineral black eyeliner
4) Morrocan Hair Oil or Pure + Simple Organic Sandalwood Hair oil
5) H2O+ Sea Salt Skin Smoother
Ok I think I’m done….
MOISTURIZER- without it I’m not as productive. I love most things by Martina Gebhardt, ‘Happy Aging’ is a new fav.
Of course pure and simple blush (tried several, love them all), and jane iredale’s eyeliner.
but, if I had to choose only ONE, moisturizer is a MUST.
keep well, keep beautyfull
If I was stranded on an island, I would take:
a) WATER, WATER, WATER
b) Martina Gebhardt aloe vera cream
c) sunscreen so I don’t get cancer
d) Pure and Simple Milk Cleanser
e) Pure and Simple Algae Serum
f) …and a lover (lol, good company is beautifying for me)
but if I could only choose one, definately d.
I can’t live without moisturizer and lip balm! I’m also a huge fan of Pure+Simple’s collegen elastin plus.
Top 5 Beauty Products I Can’t Live Without:
1. DuWop Original Lip Venom – gives plump, bee-stung lips
2. Lip Stain (also for cheeks) in Blood Orange – gives a healthy glow
3. Benefit Bad Gal Lash Mascara – for seriously long lashes
4. Benefit Georgia – a light peachy face powder
5. Urban Decay Clean & Sober Make Up Remover
My favourite beauty must-have is knowledge!
Learning about a holistic approach to skin care (largely thanks to Kristen’s book Beauty: Pure + Simple) my skin, which has been a problem to some degree all my life, has never been better and continues to improve!
I’m grateful for that, not to mention a good moisturizer (Martina Gebhardt Black Mud Cream) and a serum (P+S Collagen Elastin). As well, Coconut oil and Aloe Vera to moisturize as well as eat!
These things work for me:
1. Pure honey – Massage this onto your face after cleansing, rinse and voila, hydrated skin.
2. Freeman’s cucumber peel off mask – works wonders to reduce large pores. My skin glows after using it.
3. H2O Lip Mender
4. Sunscreen
1. Collagen Elastin Serum as an amazing hydrating base in the morning under make-up
2. AFA gel
3. Pure and SImple Witch-hazel
4. Lakshmi eyeliner (black to go out, brown during the day!)
5. Water with chlorophyll in it
Definitely have to say my Rainforest Foundation – in the colour “Sunkissed”. Nothing says flawless skin like a good layer of this stuff!
Mascara of course! Who would leave the house without mascara!
