Tulum: Six Reasons it’s the Ultimate Holistic Vanity Get-away

//Tulum: Six Reasons it’s the Ultimate Holistic Vanity Get-away

I’m a pretty tightly wound person. That’s why when I find something that relaxes and rejuvenates me as a holiday to Tulum, Mexico – I tend to repeat it. This is my fifth time to this wonderful town and it never amazes me how far away my stressors seem as soon as I arrive. But its not only the quiet beaches and the sounds of the waves that lulls me into serenity but the fact that its the perfect town for holistic vanity. With its new-age flair, Tulum nourishes the yogini, foodie and natural beauty enthusiast in a way that few other places do. Here are six reasons why Tulum is a Holistic Vanity paradise. Note: I hear they are building an airport in Tulum – so go quick before it becomes too popular and commercialized and loses its crunchy granola charm.

1. Its a Yoga Town

With its roots in being a destination for yoga retreats, an asana is never to far away. There are yoga retreat resorts as well as many offering drop-in classes to those who don’t stay there. The best part? You get to do your sun salutations in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

2. It Caters to Dietary Restrictions

I almost cheered when we went to an upscale, beachfront Italian restaurant and were informed the whole menu was dairy-free. Italian is often a problem for me as I don’t eat dairy products and avoid gluten (Pizza is a nightmare). But here, it was no problem at all. Most places catered to my picky palate and I noticed that almost every menu (even humble chalk boards) had gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options. Finding food I can eat is often stressful when traveling and its one more reason you can truly relax in Tulum.

3. Everything From Scratch

Looking to eat clean while vacationing? The hotel we stayed at makes all of their coconut milk by hand from coconuts that they grow on the premises. And if you’re going to be bad and have a few drinks, at least you can do this while knowing they only use fresh squeezed juices as mixer! This extended beyond food too. When I got a bit too much sun, the hotel manager told me about a big aloe plant they had in their garden and gave me a few stalks. I use aloe gel a lot but the freshness of the just-cut plant was much more healing and powerful than any I had used. I don’t know if there’s magic in their soil but it helped my burn even better than the aloe pot I used to have at home.

4. They Have Spa Services Beach Style

The woman was caked head to toe with what looked like some sort of turmeric paste. Unlike most body wrap treatments, no shower was needed! Only the waves of the ocean. I myself opted for a simple massage done by the beach in the shade of a big tree.

5. It’s Gorgeous

There is something to be said about the beauty of nature. Naturopathy itself is based on the idea of using nature as medicine. Well, just being near the ocean in a small, eco-hotel had me the most un-Pitta I have been in years. And that is truly anti-aging.

6. It’s Quiet

La Zebra TulumMade up of small Eco-hotel that offer up little cabanas on the beach, there are no crowds and that means no noise.  Unlike the blaring noise of all-inclusives with their pool aerobics and busy buffet lines, Tulum offers a more serene environment.  Here, you can feel closer to nature and have nothing planned but to rest under a palapa and read a good book.

Thank you for sharing your vacation photos of this magnificent destination. Now, I’m so intrigued about staying at an Eco Hotel.
