Skin Saving Seabuckthorn Oil

//Skin Saving Seabuckthorn Oil

seabuckthorn berriesI love seabuckthorn oil.  This all-natural restorative skin moisturizer, not only feeds, nourishes and protects complexions, but it is repairs skin damage.  And damage is skin aging.  Shiver.

Because what is aging?  To me, there ain’t no shame in celebrating how long you’ve been on this planet – No, when I blog about anti-aging, its about combating damage.  But damage occurs as we naturally move through our lives – sun exposure, trauma, stress…all unavoidable for most normal human beings.  This is why I love restorative oils like rosehip and seabuckthorn.

Seabuckthorn oil is high in vitamin C, fatty acids and anti-oxidants.  Its actually used on burn victims in Eastern Europe (according to some of my Eastern European Estheticians) because of its ability to heal the skin and encourage regeneration.  That’s why I put it in my Damage Care Collection (!)

Holistic Vanity Seabuckthorn Berry OilI personally prefer the berry oil to the seed oil – though both are repairing.  The berry oil has a much higher vitamin C content and vitamin C is so good for pigmentation.  The high vitamin C content in rosehip oil is also why it helps to fade skin marks and hyperpigmentation.

So, if you’re an oil junky like me – and you want to do some skin aging prevention (or have a few pesky scars and areas of damage on your complexion already (also like me), try out some Seabuckthorn oil.  Its positively skin saving.

    I recently purchased your Argan oil hoping to calm down minor breakouts and hoping to fade old and new scars. Should I be using the seabuckthorn oil instead?

    Thanks!

      It depends Kim – the argan oil is a nice and light oil that is a great texture for people who are breaking out. The Seabuckthorn Berry oil is much richer so is better for if you are not breaking out – but will be more effective in fading scars. So if you are still breaking out, I like the argan better – but if the breakouts are occasional only and your primary goal is to treat scars, the Seabuckthorn will be better.

    Hi Kristen,

    During my last facial I received one of the best tips ever! I was advised to put a thin layer of oil over my Martina Gebhardt Black Mud Cream at night to act as a barrier to the dry air in my condo, allowing my skin to penetrate all the cream. My skin is now softer than ever when I wake up! My question is: is it wasteful to use my seabuckthorn oil to do the job? I feel like I’m not really getting the benefits of the oil since it’s sitting on top of the thick cream. Should I maybe pick up a second, more affordable oil like jojoba for this purpose and use my seabuckthorn on its own? Thanks!!

      Emma, you’ll still absorb some of the seabuckthorn oil – but its best to use the oil directly to skin, so I understand the wanting to opt for a cheaper oil. It depends – I like to simplify my medicine cabinet so I don’t have a ton of oils (failing at this at the moment) and also keep my oils fresh by using them up faster. But if you go through a lot of oil, buying a jojoba oil is a good option. You just dont want to keep product around because you have so much variation – I have some clients that have half bottle of everything and it ends up costing them more when they throw some out due to rancidity. What a shame!
