This gal WANTS the extra bag under her eyes.

When I’m tired I get crazy bags under my eyes. Its actually a bit of a preoccupation – so much that I’ve written posts on how to treat these both naturally and holistically (actually, see my “eye bags” blog category. But there’s a new beauty trend that may mean mark a new puffy eye love. Maybe this will end under eye treatments forever!

I was told about this by a Korean-Canadian friend of mine who has her finger on what’s hot in Asia – specifically Korea, which is arguably the cosmetic capital of the world. “Aegyo Sal” translated means “Charming Fat” and apparently, young Koreans are actually trying to make an under eye bag with makeup and surgery. K-pop stars are getting fat put in under their eyes, while make up companies are marketing products that allow you to shade in a bag.

Here are some eye bag “tapes” that can be pasted on in order to make a pucker.

And make up techniques for faking an eye bag….

Granted, Aegyo Sal is not about loving any old eye bag – its specifically a tiny bag right under the lash line that is said to mimic childhood puppy fat – BUT when I learnt about this I realized that we really can find anything beautiful. I think some other articles online have the tone “Oh those crazy Koreans” – but I don’t see it that way at all. What it really showed me was that beauty is shaped by social conditioning. This trend turned what I thought and knew about the perception of what is attractive upside down on its head!

Now, I say we make fine lines and under eye circles a thing. Make signs of aging hot – it’ll be a trend that is a lot gentler on ourselves.

Actually this trend is not about under-eye bags as much as it is trying to mimic a certain type of eye. This type of eye protrudes from the skull a little more and is deemed attractive to many viewers. This product, I assume, is used by people whose eyes are deeper into the skull (like many Asians have).

To me, the result is clear. It doesn’t look like unhealthy under-eye circles or puffy bags at all.
