Pomegranate oil: The Perfectly Natural Lip Slick

//Pomegranate oil: The Perfectly Natural Lip Slick

I hope glossy lips never go out of style, because to me, the shinier the better.  I’m talkin’ blinding.  They just give you a moist, polished look that fills in fine lines and deflects light, creating the illusion of more fullness.

This is very important for days like today, where my post-trade show-air flight lips look parched and thin.  And simple things like shaping our brows and having glossy lips really help you feel pretty after an exhausting week.

But of course, when achieving a lovely glazed look, we want to avoid petro-chemicals.  Many lip products contain petroleum as it sits in the skin and will not penetrate creating a perfect lip slick, unfortunately petroleum clogs our pores, prevents moisture permeation and also has been linked to kidney damage and liver function when ingested or absorbed… not something we want to put on our kissers.

So, it is important to use natural lip products that are healthy and pure enough to eat (since the average woman apparently eats around six pounds of lipstick over her lifetime).  Actually my favorite lip ingredient is born out of my favorite new trick – to use a lip oil over a lip stick, turning any lip color into a lip slick.  Pomegranate oil is a very fatty oil, packed with anti-oxidants to repair our delicate lip tissue.  But  it also is so rich that its emollient properties nourish and moisturize us when our lips are dry.

I discovered pomegranate oil as a lip slick when my mother asked me to try out a sample of organic pomegranate oil for the face.  It was so thick it was almost salve-like (similar to the texture of honey) and it was almost difficult to spread over my skin.  Unless we diluted it, it was a no go as a face oil – but for a lip slick it was perfect.  Unlike lighter natural oils like jojoba or coconut, it didn’t disappear into the skin, but stay put and created shine.

So, if you’re like me and love that very glossy, photo-ready look, try adding a generous dab of pure pomegranate oil to your pout, making a perfectly natural lip slick.  Without nasty chemical in our lip products, all I have to say is Yum!

Would love to try this. Is pomegranate oil generally available in health food stores or do you have an online source you can recommend?

This sounds SO cool! I would really love to try it out! When you say it’s expensive- about how much? Haha, I’m a young girl living on a tight budget, but i’m trying to add something naturall/vegan to my everyday routine! Almost all my recipes are vegan now- yay!

Not that expensive… ours is $16 for a pen of it. It depends on the quality.
