Mineral Vs. Conventional Sunscreens: What You Need to Know

/, Natural Beautycare/Mineral Vs. Conventional Sunscreens: What You Need to Know

It boggles my mind that people still use chemical-based sunscreens. For years I have been shouting from the heavens about the dangers of these chemicals and why natural sunblock is better, safer and healthier for us. Even some of my own friends pull out the chemical-based stuff on the beach, to my chagrin, and I have to fight the urge to grab it out of their hands and hurl it into the ocean. If you still don’t know why I’m so passionate about this, here is a post I wrote eons ago about this.

Maybe its because of the way mineral blocks go one – some people find they are a bit hard to work on. If this is the case, watch my quick video on how to use mineral blocks so that you never get white streaks ever again. But if its education, I’m not doing my job. So, I made a short video about the key differences between mineral and conventional sunscreens that wraps it all up in a neat little package. I hope it inspires you to chuck the chemicals!

Your series on Sun Protection has been very informative.

My son is 8 years old. He plays outdoor tennis for about 4 hours every week. I have so far tried so many sunscreens for kids but that has not prevented his skin from getting burned and tanned esp. on his face, back of his neck and half of his arms. No matter how much I apply – it is still the same. How do I prevent this from happening and how do I reverse the after effect of skin tanning?

Vaishali, Have you looked at all my suncare videos? It could be about the type f sunblock you’re using but it could also be about the right number of SPF or the duration he is outside before taking a shade break. I would only be using a mineral bloc on him. In terms of reversing damage, aloe is great as well as the many ingredients in our Holistic Vanity Damage Care line.

    Hi Kristen,

Thanks for replying. No, I haven’t seen all the suncare videos. I saw this one and the one about applying the mineral suncreen. But I will see all of them. Your videos and blogs always have so much valuable information.

Which mineral bloc can I apply on him and which product from the Holistic Vanity Damage care line would you suggest? Your recommendations always have worked for me hence the question.

    Thanks once again.

Thank you Vaishali. Its just good because my videos will let you know about the need for shade breaks and just how much SPF you need. For general use, I like the Pure + Simple SPF https://www.pureandsimple.ca/puresimple-all-natural-spf-30-face-body-200ml.html. But definitely watch the video on calculating SPF!

Thanks Kristen. It’s funny I used to always wonder about the SPF factor and now I have some knowledge about it. Thanks to you and your video.

Which product from the Damage line would you recommend for a 8 year old?

Keep the videos coming. I enjoy watching them.

    Regards,

    Vaishali

Vaishali, if he gets skin damage or burning, the lotion from the Damage Care line is good. Its not something he needs to use daily, just when he gets UV damage.
