I cannot run without music. I need motivation in the form of pumping bass lines…and a little synth never hurt anyone. Without my ipod I get so bored and then slide down the slipperly slope of being a couch-bound slob. A good jam makes my day – and finding new, interesting music is the only thing that I really put effort into that isn’t work-related. I’ve posted about my fav tunes to run to in the past, and here it is again to ring in 2013.
Twin Shadow, Five Seconds – Hell, I could work out to this whole album. Its so retro and romantic with a nice dose of Brooklyn electro. George Lewis Jr. who is behind the project is even featured in a music video to this song where he and his friend beat up a bunch of masked men with baseball bats…perfectly to the beat. While a bit morbid, its good to move to!
Tan Lines, All of Me – Speaking of Brooklyn-based Electro, this dynamic duo really get the blood pumping. While a little more syrupy than Twin Shadow, this track’ll having you wondering if you should keep jogging or stop to shake your bootie. This whole album is fun to workout to too.
Kendrick Lamar, The Recipe – I’m obsessed with the latest Kendrick Lamar album. I don’t usually love hip hop – sure I love Outkast, but love Outkast is like loving lemon sorbet….join the club. But Kendrick just has such smooth tracks that play like a lazy day at the beach. I find myself feeling a little more gangsta every time I play it (West Si-ede! ). This is good for a nice relaxing, light jog. Those wonderful, effortless runs that make you feel like everything in the world is right.
Yeasayer, Damaged Goods – The first minute of this song starts slow but then ramps up into the tastiest electro beat. Think Depeche Mode 3.0. Yum. I play this on repeat and shamelessly dance around my apartment. Goes without saying, its good for other forms of working out.
Robyn, Dancing on my Own – When in doubt, call Robyn. I went to a party that went from casual drinks to a full on dance night because Robyn was summoned. A secret weapon for when you don’t feel motivated at all.
