I love hibiscus tea. Its tart but kind of sweet, and best of all it makes for a beautiful brilliant fuchsia color. We actually serviced hibiscus tea martinis at our engagement party by making an iced tea from hibiscus, cinnamon and dried plum. Yum! It doesn’t even need sugar.
But best of all, hibiscus is the perfect antidote to my pitta fieriness (not so much in martini-form). Its a wonderful anti-inflammatory, and in the summer I try to keep iced hibiscus tea in the fridge so I can drink it as a cooling evening treat to calm digestive inflammation. This makes it a great remedy for eczema, irritation and rosacea as it helps clear away heat in the body. And, it is especially good for those with rosacea as rosacea is a cardiovascular ailment, and hibiscus has been found to detoxify the blood system and help lower blood pressure and cholesterol. This is why we have included it in our Holistic VaniTEA Anti-inflammatory Tea along with amalaki pieces, wild-crafted blue cornflower and organic calendula flower.
Topically, hibiscus has been used traditionally on boils and sores by applying the heated leaf directly to the skin, and has also been found to its oil to be an effective natural treatment for dandruff. It has also become a popular skincare ingredient because hibiscus is packed with antioxidants and contains high amounts of Vitamin C.
So, if you need to calm your Pitta, try incorporating hibiscus into your daily routine. Whether its with a mug of hibiscus tea or by using a hibiscus shampoo on scalp irritation, you’ll find happiness with hibiscus.
