Today will be a short post as I’m ringing in another year in the life of a holistic vanity enthusiast. But what I while I promise I will get back to blogging about skin health next week – I want to take a minute to stress the importance of reflection. They say in Ayurveda that meditation is a rasayana (a restorative, rejuvenating anti-aging practice), so while I acknowledge my own aging process today I also would like to think about my personal development this last year.
Now, I know its common for us to get anxious on our birthdays. There goes the old saying that a woman never tells her age, and there are a number of wrinkle creams that go along with the sentiment. Hell, my poor fiance didn’t want to celebrate his thirtieth because he said it was “depressing”. While he wasn’t worried about crows feet or fine lines, it is the same frame of mind: we fear getting older. But I think that if we celebrate our achievements and our growth as we mature, this puts the focus not on how many years, hours, minutes we have been on this lil’ old planet, but on our evolution to higher consciousness.
So, today, while I’m blowing out the candles, I think I’ll say a little prayer for how far I’ve come along this past year. And in doing so, give myself a small dose of rasayana.
